Golf: Rory McIlroy calls for changes to Ryder Cup selection rules

first_imgFormer world number one Rory McIlroy has urged the European Tour to scrap its controversial rule barring non-members of that tour from competing in the Ryder Cup, the Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday.According to McIlroy, the absence of United States-based Englishman Paul Casey for that reason “definitely hurt” Europe’s bid to win the biennial team competition for a fourth successive time in Minnesota last month.Holders Europe lost to the United States by a crushing 17-11 margin at Hazeltine National, prompting the European Tour to consider changes to its selection criteria for the 2018 edition in Paris. (Golf: US beat Europe to regain the Ryder Cup)”It should be the best 12 players from Europe versus the best 12 players from the U.S.,” Northern Irish world number two McIlroy was quoted as saying. “For me, there shouldn’t be anything to do with membership of tours.”To have a guy like Paul Casey not on our team when he is playing some of the best golf in the world right now, it definitely hurt us (at Hazeltine).” (Anirban Lahiri in tie for Macao Open lead as Ian Poulter drops back)Casey, the world number 12, has recorded four top-four finishes in his last six starts on the U.S. PGA Tour and would have been one of the hottest players on the European team at Hazeltine had he qualified for selection. However, the 39-year-old is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has opted not to retain membership of the European Tour where he would have to compete in a minimum of five tournaments outside the four majors and four World Golf Championship events.advertisementEurope captain Darren Clarke added three wildcard picks to the nine automatic selections to round out his team for Hazeltine but McIlroy would like to see the entire 12-man lineup qualify on merit in the future.”I know that isn’t as exciting in terms of captain’s picks and qualifying process and everything else,” McIlroy told the Nolayingup podcast. first_imgzoomIllustration. Image Courtesy: Pexels under CC0 Creative Commons license The Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), part of Hutchison Ports, has recently witnessed an incident when dangerous chemicals were dropped from a RTG crane, according to data provided by the International Transport Workers’ Federation.A union investigation found that equipment failure and an inexperienced operator caused the incident, adding “yet again to Hutchison’s mounting incident record stemming from outsourcing and contracting out work to inexperienced operators.”On the back of the incident, the ITF Dockers’ Section Occupational Safety and Health Working Group has agreed to launch an aggressive action plan to improve the safety and health of the world’s port workers. At the inaugural meeting of the working group in Hong Kong, working group members came from Asia, India, Australia, Europe, the Arab World, Africa and the Americas to discuss and implement strategies to fight back against the mounting death and injury toll across waterfront worldwide.“We are appalled yet again by Hutchison’s callous disregard for life and limb, and stand united in our utter condemnation and preparedness to fight so that every worker goes home safely,” Suryansyah Bahar, deputy president of Serikat Pekerja Jakarta International Container Terminal (SPJICT), said.Between 2016 and 2018, five workers died at the JICT and there have been more than 10 incidents per month in 2018, ITF said, adding that this “is a direct result of the sacking of a hundred experienced and unionised workers, who they replaced with inexperienced workers.”last_img read more

NS Court of Appeal rules paramedic to receive added jail for sexual

first_imgHALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s Court of Appeal has decided that a former paramedic who sexually assaulted female patients must serve more time in prison.James Duncan Keats was sentenced in October 2015 to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a 71-year-old woman in her Annapolis Valley home in 2013.Four other complainants later came forward, alleging Keats had sexually assaulted them while he was working. He was convicted of assaulting two of the women, but the judge acquitted him of the other charges and sentenced him to 30 months in prison. However, the trial judge decided the new sentence should be served at the same time as the original four-year penalty. The Crown sought an appeal of that decision. In a decision published this week, the Court of Appeal decided the trial judge was wrong to impose a concurrent sentence.Nova Scotia’s highest court added the 30-month sentence to Keats’ original sentence.“A sentence must be proportionate to the gravity of the offence and the degree of responsibility of the offender,” wrote Justice Elizabeth Van den Eynden, in a decision that two other judges concurred with.“In my view, the 30-month sentence should be served consecutive to the four-year sentence. It is not unduly long or harsh; rather, it is proportionate to the gravity of the offences and reflective of Mr. Keats’ overall moral blameworthiness and breach of trust.”The panel of judges also dismissed Keats’ appeal of his conviction.last_img read more

Annan tours Chinas new peacekeeping training centre

Mr. Annan spoke to the 90 police officers preparing to be sent to Haiti at the Langfang compound south of the Chinese capital. “There is great need for your talent, your help and your contribution, and I am sure you will do well in Haiti,” he said. The Secretary-General, in China for an official visit, then went to the Eco-Village at Liuminying, featuring environmentally friendly farming, animal husbandry and biogas production. He told the villagers and environmental experts there that they were helping China to achieve a vision of a “balanced, well-rounded society.”From there, Mr. Annan returned to Beijing, where he was joined by his wife, Nane, for a visit to an AIDS voluntary counselling and confidential testing centre. They met privately first with an AIDS patient who was in counselling, and then with seven other infected individuals. The Secretary-General told the press that he had met with “courageous people who are not only living with the condition but are also determined to share their experience with others.” He added that it would be helpful “if we could encourage people we know to come and get tested.”Mrs. Annan added, “It is so important to reach out to all levels of society to raise awareness about AIDS because that is the way we can stop it at the early stage.”In a separate programme in the morning, Mrs. Annan visited a water, sanitation and hygiene project supported by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) 40 miles northeast of Beijing. Election in Côte dIvoire opportunity to start a new chapter UN envoy

“Côte d’Ivoire was put to the test through the holding of the presidential election,” Aïchatou Mindaoudou, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), told members of the Security Council during an update on the latest developments in the West African country. On 25 October, the people of Côte d’Ivoire re-elected President Alassane Ouattara to a second term in office. Ms. Mindaoudou said the results were validated by the Constitutional Council “in an atmosphere of calm and order, in stark contrast to 2010.”She noted that all observation missions – national, regional and international – concurred that the results of the vote reflected the will of the voters, and that the organization of the election was “transparent and credible.” “Côte d’Ivoire is now the second largest economy in West Africa, a remarkable recovery since the post-election crisis of 2010/2011,” the head of UNOCI underlined. “National reconciliation, however, lags behind reconstruction and economic recovery. In this regard, I welcome President Ouattara’s inauguration statement where he indicated his determination to make national reconciliation a priority of his second term,” she added. Meanwhile, she said progress in the prosecution of alleged perpetrators of crimes committed during the post-election crisis remains slow, and urged the Government to expedite investigations and prosecute all those alleged to have committed atrocities regardless of political affiliation.Ms. Mindaoudou also said she was encouraged by the participation of women in many public forum and seminars, whether representing their political parties or generally voicing their concerns on matters of national interest. “It augurs well for an increased participation of women in future elections and ultimately in decision-making positions,” she insisted. “I note, in this regard, the President’s intention to make women’s empowerment a priority during his second term.” Turning to security issues, she said the electoral process was a test for the Ivorian security forces, and that despite some short-comings, the national police, gendarmerie and armed forces met the challenge. “The security situation in Côte d’Ivoire remains stable with violent crimes still on the downward trend since [the] last report,” Ms. Mindaoudou informed the Council. “During the electoral period, no serious security incidents were reported by the population, or the candidates. Armed robberies and banditry, however, continue to be a challenge, as well as threats of terrorist attacks.”Regarding the border with Liberia, she reported that it remains closed as a precaution against the Ebola Virus Disease, but information-sharing between the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and UNOCI has continued. Humanitarian corridors were also opened on 18 and 22 December to allow for the voluntary repatriation of Ivorian refugees from Liberia, facilitated by the UN refugee agency. Noting that the authorized strength of the UNOCI Force stands at 5,437 and that of the Police at 1,500, the head of the Mission said it is ready to further reduce the Force to 4,000 troops by 31 March. To this end, she said a strategic review team will deploy in February to develop recommendations on the further downsizing of UNOCI military and police, and the future of the mission.“Challenges remain in Côte d’Ivoire notwithstanding the successful holding of the presidential election and the improving security situation on the ground,” concluded the UN Special Representative. “Progress to advance national reconciliation, the strengthening of the security sector, […] and further improvements in the human rights situation and in transitional justice are all key challenges facing Côte d’Ivoire on the path to durable stability,” she explained. Recalling that legislative elections are expected next December, Ms. Mindaoudou said these elections are “crucial,” and should involve the full political spectrum in Côte d’Ivoire, as it will be an opportunity for the opposition to participate and secure seats in the National Assembly, as per a “vibrant democracy.” read more

Already a billion-dollar industry in the U.S., the ultrasound imaging equipment market is projected to pass the $2 billion mark by 2020.”Medical device markets are often volatile, spiking up and down with FDA [U.S. Food and Drug Administration] approvals and reimbursement changes,” explains Kamran Zamanian, M.D., CEO of iData Research. “But, the ultrasound equipment market shows unusual stability. A noticeable, steady level of growth is projected.”Market stability comes from cardiology and radiology ultrasound equipment sales. These markets make up more than half of the U.S. ultrasound equipment market as a whole, and are supported by regular replacement sales. The use of ultrasound technology is an accepted, necessary component of the U.S. healthcare system. However, the market as a whole is driven by new, groundbreaking technologies. Point-of-care ultrasound device sales will see significant growth in the future, driven by new, radiation-free needle placement procedures. For example, the number of ultrasound procedures performed by anesthesiologists more than doubled between 2010 and 2013.Other key findings from the iData Research report entitled “U.S. Market for Ultrasound Imaging Equipment” include:Radiology Departments Seeing More Specialization, Fewer Patients”General imaging” devices usually used by radiology departments are significantly expensive. A trend towards smaller, specialized devices within hospital budgets is being seen. Additionally, radiology ultrasound equipment sales are limited by the increasing number of hospital departments performing their own ultrasound exams and not sending patients to radiology.Anesthesiology and Musculoskeletal Point-of-Care Ultrasound Equipment Sales GrowingWith regards to point-of-care ultrasound equipment market segments for anesthesiology and musculoskeletal applications, physicians are using ultrasound to improve the accuracy of needle placement procedures. Costly radiation-based imaging techniques are being replaced with real-time, cost-effective ultrasound imaging.A Diverse Market: Strong Leaders, Many Smaller PlayersUltrasound imaging equipment market leaders such as GE Healthcare, SonoSite and Philips account for more than half of the market. These companies can likely expect stable revenues from replacement sales in the future. However, some investors are taking note of the more than 15 other notable ultrasound equipment companies identified by iData Research. These companies include Zonare, Hitachi Aloka, Esaote, Analogic, Toshiba, Siemens Healthcare, U-Systems, Terason and Mindray, amongst others. Mergers and acquisitions are anticipated to change the competitive landscape as new technologies are developed and market leaders seek to secure their dominance. The iData Research report covers nine separate market segments in detail, including ultrasound equipment segments for cardiology, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, breast applications, urology, surgery, vascular applications, ophthalmics and point of care. For more information: www.idataresearch.com FacebookTwitterLinkedInPrint分享 Feature | January 14, 2015 Ultrasound Equipment Market Growth Driven by Advanced 3-D and 4-D Imaging Technology Replacement sales in cardiology and radiology provide most growth, but point-of-care solutions catching up 360 Photos | Ultrasound Imaging | July 11, 2019 360 Degree View of a Smartphone Performing a Cardiac Ultrasound Exam This 360 degree photo shows a basic, point-of-care cardiac echocardiogram being performed using a smartphone turned i read more News | Ultrasound Imaging | July 31, 2019 Studies Confirm Clinical Value of ShearWave Elastography for Liver Fibrosis Evaluation SuperSonic Imagine announced the publication of the results of its prospective multicentric clinical study conducted in… read more The ScanTrainer transvaginal simulator is one example of Intelligent Ultrasound’s simulation technologies. read more Related Content News | Pediatric Imaging | August 14, 2019 Ultrasound Guidance Improves First-attempt Success in IV Access in Children August 14, 2019 – Children’s veins read more News | Cardiovascular Ultrasound | August 07, 2019 Contrast Use in First Transthoracic Echocardiogram for Heart Failure Reduces Repeat Testing Heart failure is the fourth most common cause for all admission to U.S. hospitals, and it is the most common reason for… read more 360 Photos | Ultrasound Imaging | July 09, 2019 360 Degree View of a Mitral Valve Ultrasound Exam on a Vivid E95 System A view of a mitral valve on a GE Healthcare Vivid E95 … read more News | Ultrasound Imaging | July 26, 2019 Intelligent Ultrasound Group Collaborating With the National Imaging Academy Wales Artificial intelligence (AI)-based ultrasound software and simulation company Intelligent Ultrasound Group plc (AIM:… read more last_img read more

This book presents step-by-step techniques on managing, monitoring and securing the MySQL database without any hassle. Security The first thing that comes to mind is securing data because nowadays data has become precious and can impact business continuity if legal obligations are not met; in fact, it can be so bad that it can close down your business in no time. MySQL is the most secure and reliable database management system used by many well-known enterprises such as Facebook, Twitter, and Wikipedia. It really provides a good security layer that protects sensitive information from intruders. MySQL gives access control management so that granting and revoking required access from the user is easy. Roles can also be defined with a list of permissions that can be granted or revoked for the user. All user passwords are stored in an encrypted format using plugin-specific algorithms. Scalability Day by day, the mountain of data is growing because of extensive use of technology in numerous ways. Because of this, load average is going through the roof. In some cases, it is unpredictable that data cannot exceed up to some limit or number of users will not go out of bounds. Scalable databases would be a preferable solution so that, at any point, we can meet unexpected demands to scale. MySQL is a rewarding database system for its scalability, which can scale horizontally and vertically; in terms of data, spreading database and load of application queries across multiple MySQL servers is quite feasible. It is pretty easy to add horsepower to the MySQL cluster to handle the load. An open source relational database management system MySQL is an open source database management system that makes debugging, upgrading, and enhancing the functionality fast and easy. You can view the source and make the changes accordingly and use it in your own way. You can also distribute an extended version of MySQL, but you will need to have a license for this. High performance MySQL gives high-speed transaction processing with optimal speed. It can cache the results, which boosts read performance. Replication and clustering make the  system scalable for more concurrency and manages the heavy workload. Database indexes also accelerate the performance of SELECT query statements for substantial amount of data. To enhance performance, MySQL 8 has included indexes in performance schema to speed up data retrieval. High availability Today, in the world of competitive marketing, an organization’s key point is to have their system up and running. Any failure or downtime directly impacts business and revenue; hence, high availability is a factor that cannot be overlooked. MySQL is quite reliable and has constant availability using cluster and replication configurations. Cluster servers instantly handle failures and manage the failover part to keep your system available almost all the time. If one  server gets down, it will redirect the user’s request to another node and perform the requested operation. Cross-platform capabilities MySQL provides cross-platform flexibility that can run on various platforms such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, OS2, and so on. It has great API support  for the all  major languages, which makes it very easy to integrate with languages such as   PHP, C++, Perl,   Python, Java, and so on. It is also part of the Linux Apache  MySQL PHP (LAMP) server that is used worldwide for web applications. That’s it then! We discussed few important reasons of MySQL being the most popular relational database in the world and is widely adopted across many enterprises. Turkish Cypriot halloumi producers seek to boost exports

first_imgHalloumi exports from the north amounted to 7.5m kilos spread among ten different countries in 2017, reports from the north said on Monday.Since the beginning of 2018, some 4.1m kilos have been exported, the reports said, adding that even though hellim, the Turkish word for halloumi, is twice as cheap in the north than the south of the island, Greek Cypriots hold the main market share abroad.Official figures put exports of halloumi from the Republic at over 20m kilos last year, or 13.7 per cent of total exports. The Turkish Cypriot farmers union, according to media in the north, said that hellim is exported for 17 Turkish lira per kilo (€3) while halloumi is exported for 45 Turkish lira per kilo (€8).The main markets for Turkish Cypriot hellim are Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, USA, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Japan. The Republic exports halloumi to around 40 countries but the main market is the UK, which takes close to half the export quantity. In statements to Kibris newspaper, the head of the Turkish Cypriot chamber of commerce, Candan Avunduk and the head of the livestock breeding and farmer’s union, Mustafa Naimoglulari, underlined the need for “measures” to be taken to increase the quality and the production of halloumi in the north.Cyprus applied to the EU for protected designation of origin (PDO) to the EU for halloumi/hellim in 2014 for the entire island, upsetting Turkish Cypriot producers, who had said that the dairy product makes up 25 per cent of the north’s exports. They expressed fears that these would be affected if the cheese was registered as a PDO, without an input from the north. The Greek Cypriot side was concerned about the product being up to EU standards and wanted to have hellim inspected by the agriculture ministry, which the Turkish Cypriot side objected to.Following an understanding between the island’s two leaders and the EU in 2015, the European Commission announced that the international certification body Bureau Veritas would be tasked with inspecting halloumi/hellim production throughout the island and action would also be taken to facilitate Turkish Cypriot producers to export hellim via the government-controlled areas. This was the temporary agreement that was to be implemented pending the reunification of the island, the EC had said. The PDO application has not yet gone through. Agriculture Minister, Costas Kadis said earlier this month the government was doing its utmost to get through what has been a “particularly difficult and tough” process.  You May Likecoiffuresorg.comSummer hairstyles 2018 – 25 Hairstyles That Will Make You Look Youngercoiffuresorg.comUndoHealth & Human Research7 Weird Things That Happen When You Eat Oats EverydayHealth & Human ResearchUndoUpbeat NewsGrandson Rips Up Old Carpet To Find Forgotten Safe In Elderly Couple’s HomeUpbeat NewsUndo House rejects presidential veto over repossession lawUndoRussian opposition leader Navalny hospitalised for allergic reactionUndoTwo of serial killer’s victims buried in PhilippinesUndoby Taboolaby Taboolalast_img read more

Sewerage board workers hold outsourcing strike

first_imgEmployees of the Nicosia sewerage board held a 24-hour warning strike on Wednesday in protest over the board’s outsourcing of work to the private sector. Some 15 people, both employees and reps of workers’ unions Peo and Sek, gathered outside the Nicosia sewerage board premises holding banners that read “No to the outsourcing of services,” and telling passers-by to join the effort by not paying their sewerage charges.“The organisation has invoked and exploited the economic crisis in recent years, and has outsourced work to the private sector in almost the entire range of its activities,” workers’ unions Peo and Sek said.“They claim that such outsourcing is less costly, but we believe the opposite, and it also poses a high risk of leaving its own employees without work,” a Sek union rep told the Cyprus Mail on Wednesday. The unions added that the sewerage board has stopped repairing the specialised vehicles which maintain drains, citing the high costs of such repairs due to the age of the vehicles. As a result, unions said, the board has outsourced these services to the private sector at enormous additional costs.  You May LikeUltimate Pet Nutrition Nutra Thrive SupplementAdd This One Thing To Your Dog’s Food To Help Them Be HealthierUltimate Pet Nutrition Nutra Thrive SupplementUndoLuxury Crossover SUV I Search AdsThese SUVs Are The Cream Of The Crop.
